The Mary G. Montgomery Patriots boys are the lone reigning soccer state champions ranked No. 1 in this week's coaches polls.

John Carroll, last year's Class 5A champion, sits atop the 6A rankings. Reigning 1A-4A champ Montgomery Patriots leads the 1A-3A top-10.

This is the first season of a four-class system following the Alabama High School Athletic Association's decision to create a Class 7A. For soccer, Class 6A remains solo, while 5A is now combined with 4A, and classes 3A, 2A and 1A are combined.

All three defending boys champions are ranked: Vestavia Hills (6A) is third in 7A; Homewood (5A) is fourth in 6A; and Indian Springs (1A-4A) is second in 1A-3A. Reigning 6A girls champ Oak Mountain is second in 7A.
